The image on the left is "The Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes" by Jacopo Tintoretto (Venice 1545-50). The image on the right is "Salvator Mundi" by Albrecht Durer (Germany 1505). I picked these two paintings because I believe they displays ideas we have seen and talked about in our lessons this far. As far as the painting on the left, I believe it is comparable to "The Last Supper" in its horizontal shape, as well as its many figures that are present, the fact that there is much to look at, and that Christ is pictured at the centre as the midpoint of the image. I thought the use of colors, and the attention to detail of the many figures was very fascinating in this image. On the right, we see an image of Salvator Mundi. I thought this was interesting because, though it is from 1545, it seems to take a step backward regarding how people were depicted in the works we have seen. He has a pose and hand gesture that suggests he is wise and important. However, I believe this painting goes back to the idea of realism, as he is not depicted as idealistic as most portraits of people are at this time. We learned recently about mannerist styles of depicted unrealistic proportions, and I believe this is a display of the opposite of this, and a return to previously seen styles.
